I can do this...Posted by Ivy Bickl on Friday, August 14, 2009
I am a writer. Really, I am. I am constantly working on articles, stories and web content, even building a couple websites. I just don't do a good job getting to everything on my list of things to do . I haven't really made this blog a priority. But that's gonna change. I am planning on writing in it daily. I do have a lot to cover because a lot has happened the last couple of months since we moved here to try to start our small homestead. Let's see we are still building on our house. I have some pretty good sketch's of our plans to encompass our house in cob and strawbale. I have build a lot of things.. a chicken coop, a pallet workshop that is still missing the roof. It was supposed to be a father's day present for John. I built a small back porch with a roof to hold my washer and dryer. I do a really good job on a milking stand for our goats. To bad they ended up buried in our back pasture.Gia was with babies too. I'm still feeling traumatized about that day. It was just so dramatic hearing her screaming as she was being dragged into the woods I felt so helpless. I had ran as fast as I could bare foot all the way out there just to be to late! That was the also day John got bit by a baby timber rattler on our front porch. He had to drive himself to the ER in Sapulpa, only to be transferred to Tulsa by ambulance. I couldn't be there for him, because it just so happened to be the same day we ran out of diapers. Lyla had gotten her shots and had a little tummy trouble which caused her to go thru our supply quicker than usual. The kept him in ICU over night and I couldn't even talk to him on the phone! I know I drove the nurses crazy with me calling to make sure they had given him an extra blanket. He can't handle AC on his knee and back- it really makes him hurt.
Ok back on track here...sorry. Things I have built.....hmm.. I have the startings of a beautiful garden thanks to the help of my friends that seemed to understand fully my visions of what my garden should be. Patience is a real artist, and her ideas really seem to compliment my thoughts of my little cottage garden design. Her father, Ray, was nice enough to use his backhoe to help me dig a pond since he was making holes anyways when he was digging up the tons of sand plum trees that were in my way. He did a wonderful job transplanting them around his pond. I will try to get some pics of each of these projects and get this blog up to date. But first lets cover my projects just for today. I'm closing in the underneath of my bed to keep Missy (our Chi-wiener that is our only inside pet , except my numerous tree frogs-another story later I promise) from hiding everything she steals under there. She is quite the clepto it seems, with anything she can drag under there! I have found shoes, remotes, baby toys, pens, clothing, etc. under there and I'm tired of having to fish them out daily. So I do have some 2x6s that are to old to use for building anything that would be perfect to close it off. Sorry Missy. It has rained a couple of times this last week so my outdoor critters need baths. I don't think I'm gonna do much washing of the cats except cleaning their ears and eyes, and a good brushing. But the dogs and chickens are filthy so I'm throwing them in the tub today. Oh I'm looking forward to that.. a little sarcasm...lol. I'm gonna try to work on the roof of the work shop which seems impossible. I have 2 pieces of plywood and about 9 2x4s to use with the tons of foam boards we have piled everywhere. I know I'm also gonna put a layer of plastic on it too. I need to rake up the trash burning are and burn the trash good! I don't know why but it seems that it never all burns and then the dogs get into it and drag it everywhere!! Oh man, my yard is a mess! We always separate the burnable and nonburnable and organic but the diapers don't burn to good so I think they kinda mess it up. Maybe if I add some from the brush pile to get better flames? I don't know - but I'll figure it out. I need to search on Craigslist today for a free working fridge again. Hopefully today I'll have better luck. Our fridge went out about a week ago and it was right after we had just done our months worth of shopping for our groceries too! Now we are out of foodstamps and our food is going bad!
